HR Manager's Dilemma: Whom to be Blamed

The case is focused on the behavioral aspect and interpersonal relationship between the workers, formation of groups and disciplinarian problem. The grievances and the disputes among the workers are prevailing high and ultimately having an impact on the productivity. The GM found it difficult to cope with the situation and instead of resolving the problem developed a negative and run away attitude from the problem.

Question of Productivity

The case was developed in the Banmore leading Tyre manufacturing organization J K Tyres situated at Banmore, Gwalior. The case is based on the problems of inefficient productivity. The productivity is always linked with the attitude of workers towards their job. The management is trying hard to involve all the workers in their job but the efforts made were of no use. The annual reports revealed the results in statistics. The HR Dept. was worried about the way company is moving ahead. The major issues discussed are absenteeism, lack of motivation and attitudinal problems.

Seeing Employees through their Age

The case captures a conversation between two employees in a manufacturing organization’s personnel department. The employees belong to different age groups and hold different positions and are talking about some HR related issues that were experienced recently by them. In a way, it also reflects how the age of the employees, their productivity and the age of the perceiver can sometimes correlate.

Sunway Rubbers was promoted by Mr R V Sharma in 1997 and was converted into Sunway Rubbers Pvt Ltd on 1st April 2011. The company manufactured raw material product, called 80 Mesh Crum Rubber, for top tyre manufacturers in India. The company was growing rapidly and had a good reputation for quality among their clients. The company had been providing various facilities and benefits to its workers but still facing the problem of absenteeism, attrition etc.
